Some of the most important decisions in Singapore were made in this grand building which is a great place to stay as this The Fullerton Hotel review shows.

It really doesn’t matter as both have an enviable view of Singapore’s CBD because this was once the General Post Office and considered by locals to be the Most Important Post Office in the East (note the capitals).

The Fullerton Hotel review

The hotel is still mile zero, the place from which the rest of Singapore is measured. Located on the waterfront at Marina Bay, The Fullerton stands in stark historical contrast to the monumental triple erection on the other side of the bay that is the remarkable Marina Bay Sands.

Constructed in 1928, this is a grand 400-room heritage building that has been renovated and extended to accommodate a very comfortable hotel.

Our room came with membership of the very refined The Straits Club. This meant we could enjoy a champagne breakfast every morning, afternoon tea in the lounge and evening canapes and cocktails.

Staff here also were very helpful with sightseeing tips to explore Singapore.

Here’s what it is like to stay at The Fullerton Hotel.

Exploring Singapore

I thought four days would be plenty of time to explore Singapore, but I was very wrong.  There’s so much to do here that I will be making a return trip.

On day one we explored a hawker centre and tried some local treats and explored underground bunker known as The Battlebox and the story of Singapore’s surrender. The lotus-inspired ArtScience Museum at Marina Bay Sands was an eye-opening digital universe that deserves top billing on any Singapore ‘to do’ list.

Let’s Go Bike’s Historical Singapore Tour saw us pedalling around this very flat city (thank goodness for that) for four hours discovering hidden treasures and local cuisine.

After bike riding, we definitely needed a massage.  The Fullerton Hotel Asian Heritage Signature Massage was 90 minutes of pure bliss.  The goal was to detoxify and energise the body and spirit, but I was pleased just to ease those aching, much-unused muscles.  The final deep-tissue massage with warm rosemary, ginger, lavender and black pepper oils certainly did the trick.

After a bike ride and a massage, all we were fit for was a few drinks at The Fullerton’s rooftop Lighthouse Bar. This is a great place to watch the nightly light show that emanated from Marina Bay Sands.

Even if you have been before, (we hadn’t) Gardens by the Bay is a great place to explore. We scheduled a few hours there before our flights departed, but it wasn’t enough for a full visit.

Although Singapore has many dining options, it is certainly worth checking out the Town Restaurant on the ground floor which has one of the biggest buffets around.  Their chicken rice is very highly regarded by locals and lived up to the promise with tender, moist chicken with gloriously unctuous chicken rice.
