Combine thick and fluffy pita with juicy char-grilled lamb and fresh fillings and you’ll feel like you are eating Greek food in a taverna, not a shopping centre food court.
“Too good for fast food” was the verdict from Ed+bK’s tasting panel when we put the new Zeus Street Greek in the lower level of Brisbane’s Queens Plaza to the test.
Modern Greek street food
The service was quick, the food well-presented and the flavours exceeded expectations. The only downer was the noisy food court which felt like, well, a noisy food court. All the more reason to try Zeus Street Greek at one of their other locations.
This is Greek street food with modern and fresh Mediterranean flavours. Despite the small format store and concise menu offering, punters can expect to be served up the same awesome Greek street food.
The menu offering includes Uncle Tzimmy family of three pitas with chicken, pork and lamb from the souvla cooked traditionally on long skewers over hot charcoal. The meat is wrapped in fluffy pita bread with tomato, tzatziki, onion, paprika and Zeus’ famous chips. The chips certainly met my expectations, and I enjoyed the option of adding beetroot
There’s also a build your own Spartan Box. I always thought Spartan means simple or frugal, a little on the mean side of things. Well, it certainly doesn’t mean that here! At Zeus, you can cook up a Spartan Box with your own choice of a protein, base, salad and dip. They say there’s up to 320 combinations available.

What we liked
- Lamb had great char-grilled flavour
- Tzatziki sauce in the Spartan box was nice and spicy
- Char-grilled vegetables were well roasted
- Pilaf had a nice flavour and was enhanced by a splash of lemon juice.
What we didn’t like
- Food court was very noisy
- Plastic forks were too bendy for the big chunks of meat (change the forks, not the meat)
- Small format store means that we were not able to try desserts such as the baklava ice cream sandwich or loukoumades (Greek dougnuts). Sigh.
Over all, Zesus Street Greek exceeded our expectations for food court dining with meals that deserved to be enjoyed at a taverna.
The opening of Zeus QueensPlaza comes off the back of a successful Zeus Westfield Chermside launch last month.
