With those big, dark eyes and shiny coat, Archie the Silo Dog at Peppers Silo Launceston wins everyone’s heart. Whether he is relaxing on his dog bed in Reception with his favourite teddy bear bedside him or walking along the Tamar River with front of house staff, Archie stops people in their tracks. His official title is Canine Ambassador which matches his jaunty bow tie!

For dog lovers, this hotel is a wonderful place to stay in Launceston, even though you can’t bring your dog with you!

Striking Peppers Silo Hotel Launceston

A perfect fit for the décor of this Launceston hotel, Archie the Silo Dog is a sleek addition to the hotel’s reception area. Redeveloped from the disused Kings Wharf grain silos at the cost of $25 million, the impressive ten-level hotel has 108 guest rooms. There are 52 rooms located inside the barrels of the former silos.  Grain of the Silos is the hotel’s restaurant that has a strong focus on local and Tasmanian produce.

Archie the Silo Dog has a career as a canine ambassador

Archie sees the hotel as he makes his rounds delivering the morning papers.  He also is on duty greeting guests as they check-in and is very popular with children.  In his former career, Archie trained as a guide dog. Too interested in other canine friends, he didn’t quite suit the role but is perfect as hotel canine ambassador. His ten commands include the ability to shake hands and he loves a belly rub. Although the hotel is definitely Archie-friendly, you can’t take your own dog along for a stay.

Walking with Archie

Dog lovers can reduce their pet homesickness by accompanying Archie on his walks around the hotel’s exterior. Just ask at Reception. The Tamar River views which stretch across to Cataract Gorge are a double bonus. Built in a former industrial area, the hotel reconnects Launceston with the river.
