Get yourself down to the bay for a weekend of food, wine and fun as the first Moreton Bay Food & Wine Festival kicks off on September 8 and 9.

It is a weekend filled with the best the region has to offer. Think seafood, wineries, craft beer, dessert and burger challenges, the Bee Gees and a great dogs’ day out.

Many events are free, but there are also some special ticketed events.

Ed+bK’s top 5 Moreton Bay Food & Wine Festival picks

1.  Seafood challenge

Chef Paul West will be showing off his seafood skills on the USC Seafood Cooking Stage at 11.30am and 1.30pm on Saturday and Sunday.

2.  Dog café and a costume parade

It’s all about the pooches at Grind Coffee Bar where they love your dog almost as much as you do.  Find the coffee bar near 35 Redcliffe Parade and register for the Dog Costume Competition at 11am on Saturday.  First prize is a $200 Petbarn voucher.

3. Best seat in town for the fireworks

The best seat in town for the fireworks is not actually in Redcliffe but on the luxury MV Eye Spy.  Captain Kerry is throwing on a fresh buffet dinner and promises a front-row view of the fireworks display at 8 pm over Moreton Bay.  This is a ticketed event.

4. Bee Gees Way Dinner

Calling all Staying Alive fans for a three-course meal and plenty of Bee Gees-inspired funky fun. Expect prawn cocktails and stuffed mushrooms, chicken cordon bleu and steak chasseur. The finale will be profiteroles or strawberry romanoff with fresh Sunshine Coast strawberries. This is a ticketed event.

5. Smash it Burger Challenge

Can you eat a jumbo-sized burger with four big beef patties, four slices of cheese, eggs and bacon topped with lettuce, tomato, carrot and beetroot? Oh, don’t forget the sauce! Eat it in 30 minutes, and it is free. The normal price is $28.  Book for one of the four sessions.
