You can taste Queensland in the new W Brisbane Hotel High Tea of Aus which highlights local flavours like no other with local produce.
Brisbane’s newest five-star hotel, W Brisbane, is the first of its kind in Australia and the high tea offering is a standout.
Forget the Royal Doulton and cucumber sandwiches, served in the hotel’s Living Room Bar, High Tea of Aus takes classic Australian flavours and infuses them with a W twist. Think Aussie faves including an iconic Aussie meat pie, the lamington and your favourite breakfast drink Milo reimagined into a stellar line-up of treats.
This is a new treatment for high tea in Brisbane. You won’t want to settle for plain old afternoon tea after this.
Queensland treats in High Tea of Aus
Created as a collaboration between W Brisbane’s Executive Chef Robert Sauer, Chef de Cuisine Isa Hagstrom and Executive Pastry Chef Nicholas Waring, the menu highlights homegrown and local produce including Toowoomba Free Range Eggs, Fraser Island crab and quandong. With a mixture of sweet and savoury, each morsel on the menu takes you on a journey of Australian flavours.
I found each mouthful from the ‘W’ shaped serving stand with glass shelves that pulled out to reveal the beautifully presented goodies a delight. It is tough to pick a favourite, but my sweet tooth pulls me towards the beautiful Cooktown orchid macaron infused with the colours and scent of this floral emblem.
From the savoury treats, the Darling Downs grass fed fillet on mini toast and the Fraser Island crab cone were my most memorable flavours.
High Tea of Aus or more?
You can enjoy your High Tea of Aus paired with a crisp glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne, Rosé Champagne or a curated Mezzo Mezzo Martini (coffee anyone?), alongside endless Blooming Tea or coffee.
There’s a good balance of sweet and savoury on the stand with a finishing course of cheese which includes Vintage Cheddar from Maleny on the Sunshine Coast and Camel Milk Persian Feta from Summerland Camel Farm in Harrisville, Scenic Rim. It is all dusted with generous shavings of fresh truffle.
Need to know
When you book for this experience request a table near the riverside window, so you can enjoy the view as well. The seating is lobby style, so if you are taking grandma who needs back support ask for a chair to ensure her comfort. It also would be better to have an area to yourselves, rather than sharing the space as we did.

Where and when?
High Tea of Aus is available in W Brisbane’s (81 North Quay, Brisbane) Living Room Bar which is on the hotel’s lobby level. There are two daily sessions from 11.30 am to 1.30 pm and 2 pm to 4 pm
The cost is $55 per person, $69 with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Champagne or a Mezzo Mezzo Martini and $74 with a glass of Veuve Clicquot Rosé Champagne.
It is high tea in Brisbane like you have never experienced before.
