World’s Best Spiced Rum judging

The rum awards were adapted by using technology for final decisions due to COVID-19. The judges conducted their final tastings at their homes. At the same time, professional rum herder, Peter Holland chaired the occasion via the internet. Following two rounds of tastings, the local dark and hearty spirit was recognised as the best.

Head distiller, Warren Brewer was extremely excited to hear news of the internationally recognised best spiced rum award.

“It’s a great validation of all the hard work the team here has put into producing a distinctive spiced rum. This acknowledgement shows its real quality,” said Warren.

“Some of the other category winners are really well-known and respected rum distilleries with hundreds of years of production and knowledge under their belts. For a new regional distillery such as Saleyards to match them is an incredible testimony of our product and we are very proud.”

Saleyards Distillery Capricorn Spiced Rum

What does the world’s best spiced rum taste like? The judges described Saleyards Distillery Spiced Rum as ‘candied fruits on the palate with a nice balance of spice, vibrancy and surprise’.  They were full of praise for the complexity and quality of the rum.

Located in a historic Queensland Hotel, Saleyards Distillery was founded in 2016 by a group of young distillers, including Warren and his wife Catie.  Their superb spiced rum is distilled with Central Queensland molasses.

Visitor tours of the distillery are temporarily unavailable due to the current coronavirus crisis. However,  Capricorn Spiced Rum along with a suite of liqueurs, gins and vodkas (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) are available for purchase from the distillery and online.
