Hendra coffee shop Dandelion & Driftwood Hendra is a long-time local’s favourite haunt with food flavours straight out of grandma’s kitchen from Brisbane cafe veterans owners Penny and Peter Wolff, who also have local coffee roaster Wolff Coffee.

Dandelion & Driftwood Hendra

When they first burst onto the coffee scene some 14 years ago, Dandelion & Driftwood at Hendra grabbed attention for their high-quality offering. They call themselves tea and coffee crafters, and this innovative café certainly lives up to the promise. It’s one of Brisbane’s prettiest cafes with food that matches the decor.

Lunch at Dandelion and Driftwood Hendra

It started with a frivolously pink, sugar-crusted Bridgerton Cocktail and the ladies’ lunch at Dandelion & Driftwood Hendra just kept getting better. First, there was a Ms Carrie Bradshaw Tanqueray gin cured salmon gravlax on a New York Bagel, followed by dishes of beer-battered fish tacos and maple roasted cauliflower steak. There were two highlights for me – the five-spice, fried twice, quail with a hint of cinnamon and the French earl grey waffle bouquet with LICK condensed milk ice cream. All dishes were matched from the Dandelion and Driftwood wine list.

The menu is full of vegetarian and vegan options.

A Brisbane coffee shop with style

Dandelion & Driftwood on Doncaster does coffee like no other Brisbane coffee shop, with a coffee blend menu and tasting notes with each cup.  It’s a tradition they started with their first coffee shop, which opened in 2013 and is located just around the corner from this new incarnation. This is where you’ll not only enjoy a great coffee but also learn a little and, hopefully, expand your horizons.

At Dandelion & Driftwood, you’ll see cake trolleys loaded with hard-to-resist bites, exquisitely presented high teas, and a menu filled with double-decker food dishes for breakfast, lunch and dinner. We indulged with scones, served hot from the oven, with rich raspberry jam and thick cream.  The double scones were perfect for sharing between two, which left the room to taste the tiny cupcakes (just like grandma used to make), a choc coconut slice, and peanut butter whoopie pie!

Brisbane coffee roaster

Penny and Peter have crafted two signature coffee blends that will be completely exclusive to Hendra coffee shop Dandelion & Driftwood.  The Dandelion Blend focuses on the feminine and the delicate fruit and brightness that is memorable and comforting, while the Driftwood Blend is more masculine in focus, providing a robust, earthy risky, action-hero experience that focuses on a complete mouth explosion. Brewed coffee options are also highlighted with four alternate filter brews, each served with high-end filter roasted single origins exclusive to D&D through Brisbane coffee roaster Wolff Coffee.

High tea fun

While I was visiting for lunch, we saw several high teas come out to a rapturous reception. The three-tiered stand was full of delights and comes with a coffee or tea pot per person. You can amp it up with a glass of rose or champagne, but the standard high tea starts at $50 a person.
