Layered trifle with Baileys
This Easy Baileys Trifle Recipe combines rich layers of Baileys, hazelnuts, and cherries into a creamy, nutty, and fruity delight perfect for any occasion.
Trifle is a classic dessert with origins dating back to 16th-century England, where it began as a simple dish of flavoured cream spiced with sugar, rosewater, and ginger. Over time, the recipe evolved, incorporating layers of sponge cake soaked in alcohol, custard, and fruit preserves. By the 18th century, the trifle had become a more elaborate and structured dessert, often topped with whipped cream and incorporating jelly—a hallmark introduced with the development of gelatine.
Traditionally served in clear glass bowls to showcase its beautiful layers, trifle became a symbol of indulgence and celebration, gracing the tables of festive occasions and afternoon teas. Its versatility has allowed it to evolve, with countless regional and modern variations, including alcohol-infused trifles and creative flavour combinations. Today, trifle remains a beloved dessert worldwide, cherished for its simplicity, elegance, and ability to adapt to contemporary tastes.
