Oysters, champagne and truffle pasta are hard to beat when it comes to marking a special occasion. Add a table by the river at OTTO Brisbane River Quay, with the city skyline twinkling across the water, and you’ve got all the ingredients for a memorable night out. This is dining that feels celebratory without trying too hard, the kind of experience that makes you pause, smile, and raise a glass to good food and good company.

South Bank Sparkle: A Table with a View

Perched above the Brisbane River at South Bank’s River Quay, OTTO Brisbane is where Italian generosity meets city sparkle. This OTTO Brisbane review starts with the setting — one of the best in town. At the southern end of South Bank, the River Quay dining precinct is packed with some of the top Brisbane riverside restaurants, each with uninterrupted views across the water to the glittering CBD. By day it’s perfect for long, lazy lunches; by night, the lights across the river set the mood for something a little more romantic.

The Best and The Rest

✅ Few Brisbane dining spots are as close to the river as OTTO, with tables that feel almost suspended above the water.

❌ I’m struggling to find a downside for this restaurant.

Aperitivo First, Foodie Fun Second

We kicked things off at OTTO Osteria with aperitivo outdoors on the deck that feels so close to the river that you could almost grab a mangrove leaf. We sat spritzes in hand, chatter in the air, and river breezes sneaking through. It’s the kind of spot that makes you want to relax back, order another round, and call it a night.

But then the elegant OTTO Ristorante was waiting. Inside, the vibe shifted to polished but relaxed, with Head Sommelier Antoine Heurtier choosing wines that made each dish taste even better (and made us wonder why we don’t invite him to every dinner party).

We had another riverside table for two perfectly angled to catch the light show provided by Queen’s Wharf on the other side of the river.  We watched ferries and party boats cruising the river as the light faded into the night.

Champagne, Oysters & Truffle Dreams

The menu leans into Northern Italy, but every dish feels designed for Brisbane’s sunshine-and-river lifestyle. Bruny Island oysters landed first, briny and fresh enough to make you think you’d been transported straight to the coast.  Champagne, of course, was the only logical partner. Then came silky handmade pasta topped with The Folly Truffles from Stanthorpe, rich and earthy, the kind of indulgence that defines Brisbane romantic dining. Dessert sealed the deal, a sweet finale that had us both scraping our plates.

A Love Story Served with Fireworks

Sixteen years ago, I came home from a first date and declared, “I’ve found a keeper.” Two years ago, we tied the knot in Palm Cove. This anniversary, we celebrated with a feast at OTTO Brisbane River Quay with champagne flowing, oysters shucked, and truffle pasta that made us sigh happily into our forks. We didn’t catch the sunset, but the sparkle of city lights and a bonus round of Ekka fireworks made our riverside table feel like a front-row seat to the best show in town.

Why OTTO Brisbane Wins Hearts

This OTTO Brisbane review proves what regulars already know, OTTO isn’t just dinner, it’s one of those rare Brisbane riverside restaurants that nails food, service, and setting all at once. Whether it’s a milestone celebration, a date night, or just a well-deserved splurge (because pasta is always a good idea), OTTO is the kind of place that reminds you how good life tastes when shared over a table with people you love.

Meet the Chef: Will Cowper

At the helm is delightful Head Chef Will Cowper, who keeps things simple, seasonal, and full of flavour. His journey with the Fink Group began back in 2005 at OTTO Sydney, where he worked alongside Richard Ptacnik and helped keep the restaurant’s hatted reputation shining. Since taking charge at OTTO Brisbane in 2015, he’s built strong ties with local farmers and producers, shaping a menu that blends Italian soul with Queensland sunshine.

Local Flavours, Italian Soul

Will’s approach shines in dishes like Champagne lobster spaghettini — delicate, sweet, and absolutely worth a photo — and tasting menus that celebrate freshly caught Queensland seafood. His food is indulgent without being fussy, elegant but still warm. It’s food that feels special but never out of reach, a bit like OTTO itself.

Awards & Accolades (Well Deserved)

Under Will’s leadership, OTTO Brisbane has picked up plenty of recognition: Two Hats from the Australian Good Food Guide Awards, Best Italian Restaurant QLD in the Delicious 100, and Best Queensland Wine List from Gourmet Traveller Wine. But beyond the trophies, what really matters is that OTTO delivers time after time, whether you’re tucking into a romantic dinner, celebrating with friends, or just chasing one of the city’s best pasta dishes at a riverside table.

Where will you find Otto?

Otto Ristorante is located at the southern end of South Bank’s riverside parklands in the River Quay dining precinct. Overlooking the wide sweep of the Brisbane River, with uninterrupted views across to the city skyline, this pocket of restaurants and bars feels both lively and relaxed. By day, it’s a sun-drenched spot for long lunches under striped umbrellas; by night, the lights of the CBD shimmer across the water, adding a little extra glamour to every glass raised.

Home to some of Brisbane’s most celebrated dining names, from contemporary Italian to Asian fusion and seafood-focused kitchens, River Quay has become a go-to for locals and visitors chasing that quintessential Brisbane mix of good food, river breezes, and skyline sparkle.

Getting There

Getting to OTTO Brisbane South Bank is part of the fun. If you’re coming from across the river, the CityCat is your most scenic option — glide along the Brisbane River, hop off at South Bank, and it’s just a short stroll through the parklands to the restaurant. For those arriving by car, there’s parking nearby at South Bank, though it can be busy on weekends. Otherwise, a riverside walk across the Goodwill or Victoria Bridge will deliver you right to River Quay’s lively dining strip, appetite intact.
