The View on Mount Glorious feels like a place Brisbane locals have been waiting for. Set high in the D’Aguilar Range, this newly opened cafe offers a cool-climate escape, delicious house-made pastries, towering trees, and the rare pleasure of feeling far from the city while still being less than an hour from home.
The location of this scenic Brisbane cafe is very familiar to me. I’ve eaten here through its previous incarnations over the years, always stopping for the same reason. The view. Names may have changed, owners have come and gone, but the outlook has always been the constant, but now it’s all looking bright and shiny with food to match.
A familiar landmark, quietly reimagined as the perfect Brisbane day trip cafe
Owned by Kat and Jonno Haire, The View has reopened after a seven-month restoration that touched almost every part of the building. The couple, who live in nearby Samford, had known the site for years, often stopping in on scenic drives home. When it came onto the market, they saw potential rather than nostalgia. They bought the freehold and spent seven months restoring and rebuilding almost everything. The work was substantial, from the kitchen to compliance, from gardens to glazing, but the aim was simple: refresh the space without erasing its character.
The result is a space that feels fresh without feeling overworked. It still belongs to Mount Glorious. Clean lines, light-filled interiors and outdoor areas that invite you to linger rather than rush back to the car.

Plan Your Trip to Mount Glorious, Moreton Bay Region
Mount Glorious sits in the D’Aguilar Range, north-west of Brisbane, surrounded by rainforest, winding mountain roads and pockets of cool, misty air that feel a world away from the city. Just a 45-minute drive from Brisbane’s CBD via Samford, it’s an easy escape that doesn’t require planning or packing. The drive itself is part of the pleasure, climbing steadily into the hills with leafy lookouts and quiet bends along the way. As a day trip, Mount Glorious delivers that rare combination of proximity and contrast, cooler temperatures, lush scenery and a slower pace, making it ideal for a coffee run that turns into a long lunch and a reminder of how close Brisbane is to its hinterland.

A Scenic cafe Brisbane with top pastries!
Pastries made on site, and worth the drive
One thing that immediately signals intent is the pastry cabinet. Every pastry is made in-house. Not finished here. Not delivered daily. Baked on site.
It’s a detail that matters, and one that lifts The View beyond a simple coffee stop. The pastries are generous and inviting, designed to be enjoyed slowly while looking out over the trees. This alone will give Brisbane food lovers a reason to make the drive.

This pistachio cruffin was worth the Brisbane day trip on its own!
A cool climate cafe Brisbane locals will love year-round
Mount Glorious has always been prized for its cooler temperatures, and this cool climate cafe Brisbane escape leans into that naturally. On warmer days, the air feels lighter. In winter, it’s the kind of place you’ll want a jumper, a hot coffee and an excuse to stay a little longer.
The café is fully licensed, including outdoor patio areas, and the grounds are being shaped to host small weddings and private functions in the future. It’s early days, but the foundations are there.
It’s kid and dog friendly too with a separate area suitable for dog lovers and large lawns for children to explore and run off that cooped up in the car steam. There’s also a self-serve Yo Mix section with its own check out. As Kat said, “As the mother of four children, I know parents don’t want to stand in queues while their ice creams melt. This makes it really easy for them.” I saw one child very happily tucking into his yogurt ice cream which was mainly lollies, but who is counting?
This scenic cafe near Brisbane serves delicious croque monsieur
What’s next for The View on Mount Glorious
Right now, the offering is intentionally simple. Breakfast and brunch are planned once the kitchen expands, with ideas centred around café classics, such as pies and pastries done well and pastry-led dishes that make the most of having a baker on site. The future holds croissant-based eggs Benedict and other mountain-friendly comfort plates. I tucked into a delicious croque monsieur (fancy French version of a cheese toastie) and bought more pastries to enjoy later at home.
The coffee is Fonzie Abbott, and it’s good.
As the venue finds its feet, the plan includes picnic boxes so guests can relax in the spacious, newly landscaped grounds.
The View on Mount Glorious isn’t trying to be a destination for fine dining. It’s aiming to be a place people return to, again and again. I can see it becoming a regular weekend drive for me.
Why this new cafe near Brisbane works
As a new cafe near Brisbane, The View benefits from forward planning and restraint. There’s no rush to do everything at once. Just a calm opening, a strong sense of place and confidence in what the location already offers.
In the end, this is also a deeply scenic cafe Brisbane locals will come to associate with slowing down. A good coffee. A proper pastry. A view that never gets old.
For anyone looking for a Brisbane day trip cafe without clocking up kilometres, The View on Mount Glorious feels like a destination that’s worth the drive.
