In the busy world of an airport, it’s amazing to find a quiet corner where the hustle and bustle disappears.  Even better if that comes with a pair of magic hands with probing fingers that take away your stress and strains.

That’s what you’ll find at the Wellness Spa attached to the Plaza Premium lounge on level four of Brisbane’s International Airport, near Gate 81.

Pay by entry Lounge

A relatively new addition to Brisbane’s International Airport, Plaza Premium is a pay by entry lounge which is open to all travellers.  You don’t have to be flying Business Class or be a Club member to sit in the calm space of their lounge, enjoy the buffet and live cooking station and sample one of their barista coffees.

The Wellness Spa is an organic spa concept where travellers can indulge in a menu of organic spa massage treatments specifically tailored to address travel woes and ailments. Signature treatments include Organic Hand and Feet Therapy, De-Stressing Back, Neck and Shoulder massages and a 20-minute Express Facial for those that are short on time.

As my therapist, Jane unravels a few knots in my shoulders she says I need to have more massages.  It’s easy to agree.

On the plane for an eight-hour Qantas economy flight to Singapore, I feel relaxed and sleepy, only just remembering to drink plenty of water as instructed.

I’m a great believer in getting to the airport early and then relaxing over a meal or a good coffee before I fly.  On this trip, my three-hour travel window disappeared quickly with a hold up in the Airport Link tunnel and crowded departure lanes, but I still had time for a massage.

Where is it?

Wellness Spa is part of Plaza Premium Lounge at Brisbane International Airport.  It is open daily from 8 am to 8 pm.

Bottom line:  Treatments start at $49 for a 15-minute hand therapy massage up to $170 for a one-hour body massage.  Oil is optional with the treatments, but I found it good on my skin to combat the dry aeroplane atmosphere.

Best tip: Allow plenty of time for relaxing and a massage before your flight.
