Coveted cocktail menu
W Brisbane’s Living Room Bar is Brisbane’s new cocktail scene courtesy a collab with a trio of expert mixologists from East London’s Oriole Bar. Famed for adventurous cocktails that evoke a sense of discovery and theatre which regularly feature on the World’s 50 Best Bar Awards, Ali Ali, Mihai Ostafi and Samet Ali will take over the cocktail menu with Flight of the Senses, a curated list of 15 drinks exclusive to Living Room Bar. A highlight of the exclusive menu is the Toowoomba Cocktail, inspired by the sweet treat that many believe is named after Lord Lamington, former Governor of Queensland. Bittersweet with refreshing berry notes and a nutty chocolate finish.
Bee kind
Did you enjoy some artisan honey for World Bee Day on May 20? Here’s how to give bees a chance in your own backyard.
- Give your local bees some help by growing a bee-friendly garden as it can be beneficial to bees’ diets. Much like us, bees need a variety of nectar to maintain a healthy and well-balanced diet.
- You could also build a bee hotel or a bee bath or water fountain with stones in the water for the bees to rest and hydrate.
- Do stay away from pesticides in your garden as they can kill bees instantly or bees can carry the pesticides back to their hive and kill an entire hive of bees.
Veuve Clicquot in the snow
Custom’s House is celebrating the cold again with Veuve Clicquot In The Snow served in pop up igloos on the waterfront terrace from June 3 at the Saint-Tropez Sunsets Pop-Up Bar. Must try – the new Moreton Bay bug brioche roll with lime mayo! Find it at 399 Queen Street, Thursday to Sunday and book your igloo online.
Morningside’s new Sushi Factory
Seafood lovers alert! Commercial seafood supplier The Fish Factory has opened The Sushi Factory with all your fave sushi rolls made from their premium quality fish. It’s open Thursday to Sunday, 10 am to 4 pm. Find it at 355 Lytton Road, Morningside.
Pan pizza masterclass
If thick, spongy pan pizza is your thing, I found the easy fix. A Pan Pizza Masterclass with chef Marco Graziana of Graziani homemade will show you how easy it is to make and cook this type of pizza. The small group sessions are held every Thursday night at Farm House, Kedron. Eating pizza for supper followed by a sneaky ice cream at Miss Sophia’s Gelateria next door is a great night out.

New menu at Walter’s
A new menu at Walter’s Steakhouse meant it was my happy duty to give it the Eat drink and be Kerry taste test. I can confirm their steak is still one of Brisbane’s best and the dining experience is elevated.
Styled after New York’s legendary steakhouses to fulfil a dream for three friends, Denis Sheahan, Paul Piticco and Andrew Baturo, dining amongst red banquettes surrounded by wood-panelled walls at Walter’s is a meaty experience.
Entrees include unctuous roasted bone marrow and a thick rasher of their signature free-range bacon. However, it’s Walter’s 270-day grain-fed, in house, dry-aged porterhouse, prepared and served with style at the table that makes my taste buds water even days later. I finished with a slice of warm pumpkin pie that came to the table enveloped in an aroma of cinnamon. (If this makes you long for pumpkin pie, try this recipe and tips from some expert Virginian cooks.
